Tom Larmour was a popular and gifted RHKYC sailor who drowned in tragic circumstances when he went to the assistance of two young strangers who had been swept into the sea at Stanley waterfront in typhoon conditions. Tom got into difficulties after their rescue and lost his own life in the wild seas. To honour his bravery and memory, a fund was set up in the Club to be devoted to the needs of our youth sailing programme of which Tom was an active supporter.
Three perpetual trophies have been allocated to recognise the achievements and efforts made by Youth Sailors at the Club in Tom’s name. These are now awarded each year and are displayed in the Club as a way of encouraging other Youth Sailors to do well in the sport. The Youth Sailing Class Committee and other interested Members have nominated suitable candidates to the Sailing Committee for their decision on the most deserving recipients.
