Assistant Manager – Events and Communications (R&PS)

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is looking for high calibre individual to fill the position of Assistant Manager – Events and Communications (R&PS).
This is a junior management position reporting directly to the Rowing and Paddle Sports Manager.

Position Summary

The Club’s Assistant Manager - Events and Communications (R&PS) will work 3 days of 28 hours a week and is responsible for the planning and execution of rowing and paddle sports events at RHKYC. These events include everything from major international events such as the Around the Island Race to smaller, youth rowing events. Event management experience is important and an ability to work with multiple different groups simultaneously. The communication part of the role covers both internal and external communications with an emphasis on social media skills and creative writing.

Duties

Events – Rowing and Paddle Sports

  • Event administration for all club events covering planning, organising and delivering R&PS regattas and events.
  • Communicates with external stakeholders such as the Marine Dept, Development Bureau and sports associations to gain the necessary resources, sanctioning and approvals for events.
  • Manages event day partners such as NGOs, sports association umpires and VIPs.
  • Co-ordinates with RHKYC internal stake holders including F&B, Corporate Partnerships, House, Technical and Marine on the Event Order plan.
  • Prepares race day Event Orders including working closely with F&B and other club teams on venues, menus and other set up logistics.
  • Prepares and executes the Event Communications Plan with RHKYC PR & Coms team plus respective third parties such as HKCRA and HKCDBA. Includes pre event and post event planning.
  • Assists with preparation of race day documentation and collateral including start lists, event schedule, event day checklists and volunteer roles
  • Responsible for design and production of all race day banners, backdrop and signage.
  • Prepares all race day equipment ranging from walkie-talkies, clipboards, checklists, loudhailers, stopwatches and assigns to respective volunteer leads.
  • Website and registration: manages event websites, set up and design of web registration.
  • Communicates with teams and manages registration and race fee payments.
  • Event budget preparation including supplier cost quotations.
  • Handles supplier communications and logistics including designers, medal & awards, DJ and event MC.
  • Participates in event organising committee meetings.

Communications

  • Manages the R&PS Department bi-weekly digital newsletter.
  • Write or source articles for Club’s monthly magazine, Ahoy!
  • Leads the planning and implementation of the Department’s social media strategy in alignment with the Club’s PR strategy.
  • In co-ordination with the club’s PR & Coms team, manages the Department’s digital footprint.

We look for people with:

  • Proven track record of a minimum of 3 years’ event management experience.
  • Sound social media skills, in particular with IG.
  • Good spoken and written English and preferably Chinese (in Mandarin).
  • Good design skills (Canva or similar) including preparation of posters and other marketing material.
  • Good MS Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Financial acumen including budget preparation and management.

Junior Racing Programme Coach

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is looking for a talented and dedicated sailor to fill the post of Junior Racing Programme Coach.

This is a full-time position based in Hong Kong. Reporting to the MI Sailing and Marine Manager, the successful applicant is responsible for inspiring our young club racing sailors (Shark Squad) to grow a lasting passion for the sport, participate in club racing and achieve high performance goals at local and international regattas.

The role involves:

  • Managing the Junior (ages 9-14) racing programme including Junior racing development programme (introduction level to club level racing) and the club Junior Performance team in range of boats including Optimists, RS teras and doublehanded dinghies.
  • Coach performance squad and organize coaching for other areas of the programme.
  • Support the club dinghy racing programme and assist with delivery of racing clinics for members.
  • Lead weekend coaching, school holiday coaching, and also take squads to overseas events.
  • Help with some instructing with our sail training team during the week and during school holidays.

We look for people with:

  • Junior competitor and coach experience at a high level.
  • Some international sailing and coaching experience.
  • Internationally recognised coaching/instructing qualification.
  • Preferably with Internationally recognised powerboat driving qualification
  • Hong Kong PVOCC (if already based in HK)
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Willing to work with members on most weekends with regular days off on weekdays.
