What is the Development Rowing Course?
This course is for experienced and competent non-club members to row in a Club squad environment. It allows access for experienced rowers to take part in regular training sessions and ultimately compete in races for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC). To participate in this course, you need to have been assessed by a Club coach to confirm your ability and experience.
The course is aimed at non-members who would otherwise not have access to the boats or facilities needed to build and develop their rowing ability. It provides an opportunity for prospective members to get to know the Club, develop a love of the sport and to ensure that they are committed to the activities of the Rowing and Paddling Section. After a few courses, the eventual outcome is hopefully a successful application to become a member of RHKYC.
The course includes access for a three month period to attend regular training sessions at Middle Island or Shatin, and also includes invitations to the many Rowing Section races and events that might be held during the duration of the course. It DOES NOT allow access to club facilities such as the gym and pool outside of training sessions. Upon completion of this course it is hoped that the new rower has gained enough experience of both the sport and of the Club to proceed with a membership application. Current applicants may be invited to attend ongoing coaching and training with the Club.
