Squash Handicap - 10 to 15 November

The Squash section is holding its semi-annual handicap tournament from 10 to 15 November. The “qualifying rounds” are played from 1800hrs to 2000hrs from 10 to 14 November with the final rounds being played from 1730hrs to 1930hrs on 15 November following which will be a dinner in the Gun Room.

The Squash Section has a long history at the RHKYC and has participated in the annual leagues run by Hong Kong Squash since the beginning. With most of us having ‘webbed feet’ it has been difficult to get into the top divisions of one of the most thriving squash fraternities in the world of more than 3,000 registered and competing players.

Nevertheless, successive generations of the Club’s players have brought some success and we are amongst the most active of Hong Kong ’s sporting clubs.

The Rules

To promote squash amongst RHKYC members, their families and friends, as an outstanding way of keeping fit and having fun! All are welcome to play, either in the Club’s representative teams or just for enjoyment.

The following annual schedule is a measure of both the Club’s competitive and social spirit at all levels:

Internal Monthly Boxes	Each box at the beginning of the month, starts with five players. At the end of the month depending of points accumulated, two players join the upper box, one player stays in the same box and 12 players join the lower box.
Hong Kong Official Squash Winter League	In the 2025/2026 season, we have three teams in Divisions 12, 14, and 15, and 2 teams in Masters 3 and 4. The Winter League runs from September to March/April. With a total of five teams, we can accommodate all levels of ability and standards.
Clubs' Masters Summer League	This popular competition was created by our Squash Club Convenor, Francis Longuepee, in 2015 and remains very strong. It is a "Private Club" league between the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, The American Club, The Football Club, The Ladies Recreation Club, The Hong Kong Cricket Club, and The United Service Recreation Club. Teams of four players play round robin every Thursday, followed by dinner together. The social aspect of the league is very important. At the end of the season, we have a Grand Finale followed by a BBQ for all teams.
Other Tournaments and Challenges	We organise a handicap tournament twice a year, in May/June and November, followed by a BBQ around the Club pool. Each player, depending on ability, is given a points handicap to level the playing field, giving everyone a chance to shine. This event is very fun and, although quite competitive, it emphasises the social and friendly nature of the game—especially during the BBQ and Prizes Presentation. For newcomers and existing players, we host "Meet and Greet" social squash sessions with food and drinks twice a year. Throughout the season, we also organise challenges with other Hong Kong clubs or international visiting clubs. Some of our players regularly attend international tournaments in Singapore, Taipei, Mumbai, Bangkok, and beyond, competing in single squash or Jumbo double.
Free Training Sessions	We have free social training sessions every week for players of all levels. We organise matches and drills to help players improve. Mondays: 1800hrs to 2100hrs Wednesdays: 1700hrs to 2100hrs Saturdays: 1200hrs to 1400hrs

All levels of squash players are welcome to join the RHKYC Squash Group. We recommend protective glasses to play.
Non-marking soles are compulsory to work inside the courts.
No food or drink is allowed inside the courts

There is also a ‘member only’ sessions on every Saturday from 1000hrs to 1200hrs, when you can play with anyone else who turns up – a good way to meet people and to widen your experience.

Note that, following a decision made by the WSF in 2008, the English scoring system has given way to (PAR = Point a Rally scoring); in Hong Kong, Winter and Summer League are now played best of five games, a point a rally, to 11 points with two points difference at 10/10.
