2008 Noel Croucher Awards

Noel Croucher Award for Sailing - Walder Ip

The Commodore advised that Mr Walder Ip has served on the Sailing Committee, China Events Sub-Committee, the China Coast Regatta and Hainan Race Committee. The hard work of Mr Ip, particularly his dealing with the authorities in Hainan for the Hainan Race made a huge difference to the success of the race and thus allowed elements such as CIQ, the finish boat and general administration to function very well. Mr Ip also stayed up all night on two successive days with the race management team to ensure that he was available to help with any problems if required .

On Sailing Committee, Mr Ip has been a member since 1999 and was always quick to offer his opinion on matters being discussed and his knowledge and experience in dealing with the Chinese Yachting Association have proved to be invaluable. Despite travelling extensively in his own occupation, it was rare for Mr Ip to miss a meeting, which his attendance record would confirm. Mr Ip was a very active sailor, sailing on a weekly basis with the Impala fleet, as well as the other major regattas in Hong Kong and offshore races to China. The nomination of Mr Ip for the Noel Croucher Award this year reflected his long term contribution to sailing at the Club and his enthusiasm and commitment was an example to all members. The Commodore then presented the award to Mr Walder Ip.

Noel Croucher Award for Rowing - Chris Hanselman

The Vice Commodore, Mr Ambrose Lo, advised that on the rowing side, that this year's recipient was Mr Chris Hanselman. Mr Hanselman was the Rowing Captain during 2005-2007 and served on the General Committee during the same period of time. He served on Rowing Committee from 1998-2001 and then from 2003-2007, and on Middle Island Sub-Committee during 2001-2002. His foresight and effort in the introduction of offshore rowing and outrigger canoes to the rowing section have made these classes very popular within the section. He has also been involved, over many years, in the charitable fundraising activities of the section, eg million meter row, sedan chair race and pedal karts.

Mr Hanselman continued to organise the Club's participation in overseas rowing events. He was well-known for his achievements in competition as an oarsman. He has made significant contribution to the administration of the rowing section.

The Commodore then presented the award to Mr Chris Hanselman.
