2005 Noel Croucher Award

Noel Croucher Award for Rowing - Martin Reynolds

On behalf of the Club, the Commodore congratulated Mr Martin Reynolds who had been nominated to receive the Noel Croucher Award 2005 for his special contributions to rowing.
The Rowing Captain, Mr Chris Hanselman, advised that Mr Martin Reynolds will be known to most members of the club having being the cover model in Ahoy on a number of occasions . These photographic images of his graceful and athletic frame have
promoted an appreciation of the sport of rowing and the levels of commitment that are needed to excel in this discipline. The portraits of Mr Reynolds will stand testament in time to the capacity and effort of all involved in the sport in the Club and all the associated essential activities connected to rowing.

Mr Hanselman commented that Mr Reynolds is a "larger than life" character. He has been a member of the Club since 1993, and has always been a stalwart of the rowing section. He has been a regular crew member of Club winning crews in both local and international inter-port regattas during the whole of his time at the Club. However, he is best remembered for his sterling performances in FEARA competitions. His social and energetic nature have helped to build and maintain close friendships in the FEARA clubs and maintain the name of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club as a pre-eminent rowing club in Asia.

Mr Reynolds really came to the fore in his role as rowing captain between 1999-2001. He had already served on the rowing committee in a number of capacities for some 3 years prior to taking over the Captaincy. During his tenure as Captain, Martin undertook a concerted effort to drive membership of the Club from the ranks of the varsity in Hong Kong. Through 'hands on' interface with the university club members, their coaches and administrators, he made our Club more appealing. He brought a new level of membership to the Club which has subsequently been built upon and maintained. Mr Reynolds has not just been content with personal glory on the water and with developing relationships with other clubs, he has also been selfless in his dedication to the rowing section and as such is a truly valued member of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club rowing section and a very worthwhile recipient of this award.

The Commodore then presented the award to Mr Martin Reynolds.
