Race Coach/Sailing Instructor

This is a full-time contract based in Hong Kong. Reporting to the Middle Island Sailing and Marine Manager, the successful applicant will coach the up-and-coming cadets to higher levels of racing expertise. Coaching and mentoring at international events will also be involved. Off-water there will be work in preparing for coaching on training weekends or coaching at events as well as leading part time coaches that report to this position. Middle Island has a clubhouse with restaurant, sailing academy, hardstand, marina and launching areas serviced by a regular club ferry.

We are looking for people with:

  • Extensive dinghy racing experience.
  • Graduation from an internationally recognised sail training academy.
  • Race Coach or Instructor qualification is essential.
  • Bosun Experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, team and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work weekends and midweek shifts.

 

Sponsorship & Corporate Partnerships Assistant Manager

The Sponsorship & Corporate Partnerships Assistant Manager will work to develop and maintain the existing RHKYC sponsors and corporate partners, as well as work to acquire new sponsors. Working alongside the Head of Sponsorship & Corporate Partnerships and other RHKYC departments such as Sailing, Rowing & Paddle Sports and PR & Communications, this person will be responsible for assessing the needs of the sponsors, as well as ensuring delivery of rights across the year. He or she will need to be comfortable with networking, working with a variety of clients with varying needs, be able to think outside the box and be solution oriented. This position will allow an individual to gain valuable experience in sponsorship related to events and sport.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Research and develop appropriate new sponsorship opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with new and existing sponsors
  • Be the key contact for a number of RHKYC sponsors, taking responsibility for planning and delivering all partnership elements and rights at physical events and online where necessary throughout the year
  • Liaise with different departments on sponsor needs in the lead up to events
  • Manage execution sponsor activation at events
  • Support management with negotiation of contracts with sponsors and partners from drafting stage through to signing
  • Initiate new business conversations with prospective partners – both via responding to incoming enquiries and by proactively approaching brands.
  • Support with production of pitch documents for prospective sponsors

Requirements:

  • Experience in sponsorship or account management
  • A natural networker with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills. Preferably with proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop but not essential.
  • Fluent in English, excellent in verbal and written communication, presentation skills
  • Verbal and written Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is preferable but not essential.

 

Rowing and Paddle Sports Officer (Events & Communication)

This position will report to the Rowing and Paddle Sports Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

Events:

  • Take a leading role in planning, organizing and delivering Rowing and Paddle Sport regattas and events at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.
  • Coordinating with internal and external key stakeholders to gain the necessary resources, sanctioning and approvals.
  • Managing event finances and registrations.
  • Leading event promotion and communications.
  • Managing the recruitment and facilitation of event volunteers.

Communication:

  • Managing the R&PS Department digital newsletter.
  • Leading the planning and implementation of the Department’s social media strategy in alignment with the Club’s PR strategy.
  • Managing the Department’s digital footprint.
  • Work with the Club’s PR Department as required.
  • To perform such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Rowing and Paddle Sports Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of professional experience in sport event management and communication.
  • Higher Diploma or above in related disciplines.
  • Proven experience with implementing and managing a communications strategy, including social media.
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop an advantage.

 

Coxswain


Responsibilities:

  • Operating Club’s sampans
  • Cleaning and maintenance of boats
  • Providing support to sailing activities

Requirements:

  • 2 years relevant experience preferred.
  • With Pleasure Vessel Operator Grade 2 Certificate
  • Preferably with a valid VHF License

 

Rigger

The successful candidate will report to the Boatyard Manager and will be responsible for:

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all required ropework / splicing / leather protection work / Furler & furling equipment servicing.
  • Use the boat yard’s own swaging / wire pressing / Talurit press / Cold head rod presses.
  • Hydraulics & the servicing of hydraulic rams.
  • Carry out detailed rig inspections and provide photos / written reports as required.
  • Provide quotations / specifications for entire standing / running rigging packages as replacements on existing craft.
  • Set up a supply chain of economically priced wire / fittings etc for his trade.
  • Safe work practice in relation to cranes and working aloft (Certified)

Requirements:

  • Certified rigger from an Internationally recognised body.
  • Knowledge of modern and traditional racing yachts. Ideally with experience of the RHKYC racing class fleets.
  • Understanding of mast electrics / electronics & their fitment.

 

Chief Engineer

The successful candidate will report to the Boatyard Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Day-to-day mechanics duties in a boatyard including but not limited to scheduling/buying for/completing and testing all engineering based functions required by the management.
  • Checking of all finished machine/engineering work carried out by the engineering staff and subcontractors.
  • Reporting of billing hours to the office for all engineering staff.
  • Liaison with outside machine shops and suppliers to coordinate work.
  • Assisting in emergency yacht repair during regattas.
  • Provide advice and support to members who require translation or breakdown.
  • Suggest and provide pricing on hand and machine tools required by the engineering staff

He/she should possess the following requirements:

  • At least 5 years relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of motorboat engines and electrical auxiliary systems.
  • High level of welding skills.
  • Knowledge of marine hydraulic systems and related parts.
  • Knowledge of boat steering systems.
  • Able to work on land and at sea.
  • Able to diagnose problems with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and able to work independently under pressure.
  • Good spoken English and Chinese.
