IMAGE: GUY NOWELL | The International Flying Fifteen, designed by Uffa Fox over sixty years ago, is a two-person racing keelboat which has a lively performance and yet is safe and easy to handle. Over 4,000 of these beautiful boats have been built, with large fleets at clubs all over UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and single-club fleets in Hong Kong, South Africa, Majorca, France, Belgium and Philippines. Sixty boats competed at the 2017 World Championships in Napier, New Zealand including four boats from Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Flying Fifteen Association was established in the early1960's and has over seventy members, with twenty four boats based at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Causeway Bay. The Fifteen fleet is one of the most active in the Club, with racing on almost every weekend of the year. Most racing is in the Harbour on Saturday afternoons, but the fleet also spend time Lamma, where the 2013 World Championships were raced. Fifteens are also well represented at Regattas, Round the Island Race, etc, and have an excellent record competing on handicap against different classes of boat. Off the water, we believe that we are friendly and welcoming, after the usual jugs in the bar apres-sail, we inevitably go for a meal somewhere on Saturday evenings. Would you like to Fly a Fifteen? If you have some sailing experience and are interested in trying out a Fifteen, or if you want to get on the crew list, or whatever, just turn up at the Club on a Saturday lunch time and ask for the Fifteens. Everyone knows us! FLYING FIFTEEN FACEBOOK PAGE |
