Hong Kong Invitational Sportsboat Championship 2010

The lack of a sponsor for shipping has resulted in the RHKYC revising plans for the Asian Sportsboat  Championships scheduled for November this year.

The 5 day, 10 race series has been reformatted into 3 days of racing with 8 races and is now titled the Hong Kong Invitational Sportsboat Championship 2010 to more accurately reflect the focus of the event. The more condensed format will appeal to local sailors and for the overseas visitors the link to our Lipton Trophy and Around the Island Race mean that you can still fit 10 races in to an action packed week in Hong Kong .

Overseas competitors wishing to bring their boats to Hong Kong can contact the Club’s Marine Services Manager at marine@rhkyc.org.hk for information and assistance with logistics, and as always the Club’s usual welcome will be extended to all visitors, with temporary membership and access to the Club’s facilities at our three bases around Hong Kong . For those unable to ship boats in for the championship, the organising committee are working hard to secure boats for charter, so please contact the sailing office at sailing@rhkyc.org.hk for details on what boats might be available for the event.

November is THE time of the year to race in Hong Kong , and the sailing promises to be sensational with winds typically in the high teens and temperatures in the low twenties. The Lamma Channel race track rarely fails to deliver and has been home for many top International events over the years including the 2007 Asian Sportsboat Championships. The new hardstand, pontoons and Clubhouse renovations at Middle Island will also be fully operational by November and the sportsboats will be the amongst the first fleets to enjoy the new facilities on offer.
