HONG KONG TO VIETNAM RACE 2013 - BOAT INFORMATION
She’s either a HH42 or a JV42 (as she’s a production boat) but whatever she is, Island Fling will be on the start line for the Audi Hong Kong to Vietnam Race on 17 October.
Launched in September 2013, Island Fling will have a crew of 10 on board, some of whom have raced together on a professional race and who are now “coming along for the downwind jolly to Nam” as owner’s rep, Steve (Taff) Dodd puts it.
The crew comprises one America’s Cup winner, a veteran of five Volvo Ocean Races, a two-time Volvo Ocean Racer and a Finn trialist for the last Olympics - the rest are all professional sailors with a list of wins and achievements too long to mention!
Even with such a strong crew, Taff says the other entrants into the race are “all VERY good boats and sailors so they are all considered as a serious threat.”
Taff is most looking forward to “having a beer before and after with fellow competitors and a good meal and hopefully not too many stories of the long nights past! Also that we made it and we are not too old after all!”
