A Tale of Two Hemispheres: Domaine Thomson Wine Dinner

Compass Room | 1900hrs to 2300hrs

Domaine Thomson is a family-owned producer with vineyards and homes in Central Otago, New Zealand, and Gevrey-Chambertin, France. Proprietor PM and the late David Hall-Jones are dedicated to making the best Pinot Noir in two hemispheres, wines that express the individual terroir of each region.

Their Surveyor Thomson wine from Central Otago is named after David’s great-great grandfather, New Zealand’s first Surveyor-General. The 14-hectare Pinot Noir vineyard, overlooking the lakeside settlement of Pisa Moorings, is divided into four distinct blocks, each with its own special characteristics. They have also recently added a small quantity of Chardonnay vines.

Prominent New Zealand winemaker Dean Shaw of the Central Otago Wine Company produced the first Surveyor Thomson Pinot Noir in 2003 and continues to do so today. Dean has worked numerous vintages in Burgundy under the guidance of master French winemakers and has developed a reputation for producing Pinot Noir with as little intervention as possible, creating wines that are a true expression of Central Otago’s climate and landscape.
