On behalf of the Club, the Commodore congratulated the recipient of the Noel Croucher Award in 2023, Mr Barry A Truhol who had been nominated to receive the award for Sailing for his truly exceptional contribution to the Club and the sport of sailing over many years.
Mr Truhol was always one of the top volunteers at the Club each year. For example, during the 2022-23 season, he volunteered for 21 days of Race Management duty for sailing and has contributed over 150 days since 2015. He is also a very regular volunteer for rowing and paddling activities.
Mr Truhol was also the Club’s Chief Powerboat Instructor, running the RYA Level II and Safety Boat courses. He has also designed and run mark laying courses and, as Chairman of the Race Management Sub-Committee, has been involved in many of the 8 innovations we have seen in Race Management over recent years – such as the introduction of Buoy Zone and the Smartmark, the Club’s new robotic mark.
As one of the four National Race Officers in Hong Kong, Mr Truhol also supports sailing around Hong Kong, providing support at Hebe Haven Yacht Club, Aberdeen Boat Club, the Schools Sailing Association and many others. Mr Truhol has been the Principal Race Officer at Hong Kong Race Week (biggest youth event in Hong Kong), Race Officer for Autumn and Spring Regattas, Chief Safety Officer for Around the Island Race, amongst many others.
The Commodore invited Mr Barry A Truhol to receive the Noel Croucher Award for his outstanding contribution to sailing.
