2011 Noel Croucher Award

Noel Croucher Award for Sailing - Jamie McWilliam

On behalf of the Club, the Commodore congratulated Mr Jamie McWilliam who had been nominated to receive the Noel Croucher Award 2011 for his truly exceptional contributions to sailing.

The Commodore advised that Mr McWilliam did an extensive amount of work on sorting out ratings in Hong Kong, including developing the Around the Island Race rating system and sitting on the COA HKPN ratings committee to try and make the system credible with owners and sailors. Mr McWilliam has been very active in introducing the new ORC rating system to Hong Kong‘s sailors. He was also a driving force behind the introduction of the Nation’s Cup to the Club’s sailing calendar as well as the 2010 Rolex Commodore’s Cup bid at which Hong Kong finished second overall. He was also the driving force behind the 2012 Commodore’s Cup bid and in the past has been an ambassador for the Club at overseas events such as New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. He is currently a Rear Commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

A member of Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club since 1994, Mr McWilliam has served as the Sailing Secretary during 2001-2003 and was the chairman of the newly formed Sailing Development Sub-Committee during 2009-2011 to ensure that it had focused objectives. He also served on a number of committees, including Sailing Committee (2001-2003, 2007-2011), General Committee (2003-2005) and Club Committee (2003-2004).

Mr McWilliam was unable to attend the meeting as he was out of town on business, and the Commodore invited his wife Mrs Anne-Louise McWilliam to come forward, to receive the Noel Croucher Award on Jamie’s behalf for his outstanding contribution to sailing.

The Commodore then presented the award to Mrs Louise McWilliam.
