The ‘Sailor of the Year’ award went jointly to Calum Gregor and Scarlett Manzoni. The Commodore stated that Calum had achieved great success at both national and international regattas and there was no doubt that this experience had provided him with a great foundation that would stand him in good stead as he moved forward to other classes. The Club looked forward to following his progress in the coming years and hoped that he would also assist other Club sailors in developing their own skills and sailing careers.
The Commodore further stated that Scarlett had been a great ambassador for our youth sailors. She genuinely cared about others in the squad like their big sister protecting, inspiring and supporting them. She also cared about the image the Sharks portrayed to other members and competitors and developing the team spirit that was essential for the Sharks’ development as sailors. She had also been personally committed to the training programme and had participated in all the ranking events. Her own performance in the Optimist Class had also improved over the past year.
The Tom Larmour ‘Sailor of the Year’ trophy was then presented jointly to Calum Gregor and Scarlett Manzoni.
Calum thanked the Club for giving them the award and stated that he hoped he could continue in the future.
The next award, for ‘The Most Promising Sailor’, went to Julian Fung this year. The Commodore explained that Julian was ranked 49th last year and had spent the last 12 months attending the majority of training regattas and this commitment had had an immediate positive effect as he was now regularly getting results in the top 10 of the Hong Kong Optimist Fleet and was ranked 7th in Hong Kong which was a fantastic development. He had always had the potential to do well and it was fantastic to see this come to fruition through his hard work and dedication. The Tom Larmour ‘Most Promising Sailor’ trophy was then presented to Julian Fung.
