About Rowing

Fine Rowing

The Shing Mun River is where most of the fine rowing training and competitions are held. The Shing Mun River has over 4 km of flat water and is an ideal place to train. The Club is based at the Jockey Club Shek Mun Rowing Centre, where we store a full range of competition boats (from singles to eights).

Coastal Rowing

Middle Island is the location for the Club’s fleet of coastal rowing boats. The waters and climate of Hong Kong are ideal for this type of water sport. The Club organises regular training sessions for coastal rowing, as well as a number of ‘competitive’ and ‘social’ events.

Coastal rowing is not only a ‘social’ activity, but an extreme sport - the Club hosts the Around the Island Race (ATIR) each year and the coastal rowers participate in this event. The ATIR is a 45km non-stop row around Hong Kong Island, in which the rowers compete against themselves, as well as against the outrigger canoes and sailing boats. As a build-up to this event, the Club’s coastal rowing squad participates in a number of races together with the outrigger canoeists.

Given the growth of the sport within the Club and in Hong Kong, the number of events and activities is increasing and the Club is looking to participate internationally as well.
