Student Usage Card

Current full-time students who are under the age of 27 and registered at one of the Hong Kong Universities funded by or recognised by the University Grants Committee (UGC), include one of their equivalent degree-awarding community colleges or institutions of UGC, may apply for a Student Usage Card for a maximum period of 12 months. All applications are subject to approval by the Membership Committee of the Club. A usage card is valid from 1 October of one academic year until 30 September of the following year, at which point a student can reapply provided they continue to meet the stipulated requirements.

Application Criteria

The applicant should provide a comprehensive summary of their sailing or rowing (including paddle sports) qualifications and experience to afford a maximum chance of success with the application. For sailing applicants, the minimum requirement is participation in at least six races, or a minimum of 40 hours of sailing or cruising on a sailing vessel not less than six months immediately preceding the date of application. For rowing (including paddle sports) applicants, the minimum requirement is participation in at least two races, or attend a minimum of 18 organised rowing (including paddle sports) sessions not less than six months immediately preceding the date of application. All qualifications and experience must be verified by the sailing or rowing (including paddle sports) authority of the relevant UGC-funded university, or an equivalent degree-awarding community college or institution before submission to the Membership Office.

Application Procedures

The Membership Committee considers applications for a Student Usage Card at their regular monthly meetings. Copies of all application forms will be circulated to the members of the Committee before the meeting, and applicants’ details will be posted within the Club for information about the membership. Applicants may be asked to provide additional information, and or to attend an interview with the Membership Committee. Following the meeting at which an application is considered, applicants will be notified in writing of the Committee's decision. Successful applicants will be issued with a Student Usage Card and will be charged the applicable monthly subscription with effective from the beginning of that month. The Club reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject any application without assigning any reason.

A Student Usage Card holder may apply for Junior or Ordinary Membership at any time while holding a valid Student Usage Card. Applications for Junior or Ordinary Membership will be subject to the normal application procedures and requirements applicable to those membership categories, including payment of the relevant entrance fee.

A Student Usage Card is valid from 1 October of one academic year to 30 September of the following academic year, at which point the applicant can apply for renewal. Any renewal application must be submitted a fresh and supported by an endorsement from the relevant university, or an equivalent degree-awarding community college or institution of UGC, for consideration by the Membership Committee.

Charge

There is no joining fee required for this card but a monthly subscription of $240 will be levied in advance.

Requirement for Autopay

The Club requires all Student Usage Card applicants to settle their monthly accounts by means of an autopay arrangement with their bank. A completed Direct Debit Authorisation form must accompany the application. The Direct Debit Authorisation will be processed upon approval of the application by the Membership Committee. If the application is withdrawn or not approved, the Direct Debit Authorisation will be returned to the applicant.

Payment for Club Services

The Student Usage Card permits the holder access to the Club and use of its facilities. The holder must carry the card at all times while on Club premises. When purchasing food and beverage or using Club facilities, the holder must present a valid Student Usage Card and pay by Octopus Card.

Guests

The Student Usage Card is for the holder’s exclusive use and is non-transferable. No guests’ privileges are attached to the Card, and holders may not bring guests to the Club at any time.
