Save Our Shells

'Save Our Shells' is an initiative launched by The Nature Conservancy that recycles and reuses discarded shellfish shells like oysters and mussels from the restaurant and aquaculture industry. These shells that would normally go into landfills or discarded as trash on the shoreline are repurposed into substrate for new, living reefs. These reefs in turn provide a range of benefits; serving as habitats for juvenile fishes and other marine life, as natural filter feeders that improve local water quality and as shoreline stabilisers.

The Club started collaborating with The Nature Conservancy on this meaningful project in the summer of 2021 at all three Clubhouses and we are saving around 200kg of shells going to the landfill every month!  Keep enjoying your shellfish at the Club and we'll keep supporting the Save Our Shells project!
