Chef Massimo Camia - Passion, Origin

Chef Massimo Camia was born in Dogliani, Italy, and has lived in Monforte d'Alba since the age of 14. He has always been passionate about cooking and serving good food. After attending hotel school in Ceres, in the Lanzo Valleys north of Turin, he gained experience and developed organisational skills working in major hotels before returning to ply his trade locally. Deeply attached to the area where he grew up, in 1986 he began his first experience as a restaurateur in the nearby town of Mondovì.  Driven by his love for the Langa and its magical appeal, Massimo’s strong desire to return to the heart of the area of his birth led him in 1990 to open the Locanda nel Borgo Antico in Barolo. In 2001, Chef Massimo Camia was honoured for his hard work with a one Michelin Star.

Gaja

Gaja is one of the best-known wine producers in all of Italy. Originating in and still based in Barbaresco, in northwest Italy, the Gaja name remains most strongly associated with Nebbiolo-based wines, though the company now makes more wine in Tuscany than Piedmont.

The business was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja with just two hectares of vineyards in Barbaresco. Since then, five generations of Gajas have been producing wines in Piedmont’s Langhe hills. In 1970, Angelo Gaja took over the family business. Angelo Gaja is often credited with the estate's more recent success.

Today, Gaja is one of the Italy's outstanding and most influential wine producers and the stars of the world wine scene. Gaja is widely credited with transforming not just the image and international reputation of its native Piedmont region, but of Italy as a whole. It has had a significant impact on the way that Italian wine is grown, made, priced, distributed and marketed. Gaja is one of a handful of fine wine brands that can compete with and charge the same prices as the top names of Burgundy and Bordeaux.
