HONG KONG TO VIETNAM RACE 2013 - BOAT INFORMATION

Surfdude, a Millenium 45 owned by Steve Ho, became world famous when she lost her rig at the China Cup 2012, going up the port layline against a fleet of Beneteau 40.7’s coming down on starboard. A video of her mast coming down was seen by millions on YouTube.

Now equipped with a new rig, Surfdude is hoping to have a less spectacular end to her first Audi Hong Kong to Vietnam Race. Gaston Chan and John Woo will be adding their many years of experience to the crew while Vicky Lee was on Mandrake when she won the Raja Muda Regatta in 2011, and almost won the Fastnet 2011 on Beau Geste.  Kat Chan is a Surfdude regular and did the Hainan and Taiwan Races on the boat.  The rest of the crew are local dinghy sailors keen to learn how to sail a big boat.

The crew has been training hard together and while they are not expecting to beat the serious competition, they are hoping for a safe passage and some great fun going downwind under a full moon.
