History of the HKRNVR Memorial Vase

The Vase was presented to the Club more than 40 years ago by the local Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves with the proviso that "the course should take participating yachts into waters patrolled by the HKRNVR." 

The HKRNVR is now defunct but the trophy continues to serve as a reminder to yachtsmen of when amateur sailors played their part in the security of Hong Kong.

HKRNVR Race 2012

Despite the proviso, nowadays the course for the race has to be set to take into account Marine Department restrictions on sailing and towing boats through the congested central harbour area. The difficulties this imposes for holding a race in the Western Approaches, where the HKRNVR Race has traditionally been held in past sailing seasons, have dictated the format in recent years.

But the format still fulfils the proviso to some extent and the race this year will continue to be a pursuit race with staggered start times. It will be held over a course out through the harbour to the eastern approaches and back, on Saturday 10 March 2012.

This year's race is a constituent event of the Top Dog Trophy Series - Enter by signing up on the day.
