Kellett Island Day
Sunday 9 May from 1000hrs to 2000hrs
Members may bring guests however please note that there is no guest parking available.
You are going to have an amazing day!
Sailing - learn about the different classes (type) of boats that we have at the Club - each class will have their own display and someone will be on hand to tell you all about the boat. You can also go out for joy rides but be sure to sign up at the pontoon on the day to book your slot. There will also be the last races of Stage II of the BNP Paribas Match Racing Series - these races will take place in front of the Clubhouse and we will be providing commentary so a good place to watch from is either the Chart Room balcony (where you can hear the audio) or get up close to the action and stand at the end of the breakwater. Learn all about our Sail Training activities too!
Rowing - learn about the different paddle groups within the Rowing Section (rowing, outrigging, dragonboating). Fancy going out into the harbour in either an outrigger or an offshore rowing boat? Now's your chance! And if you prefer to be shore-based, get on up to the Main Lawn where you can race against other competitors on the rowing machines.
Bowling - first off we'll have a little competition and anyone who gets a strike will get a keyring! Then, from noon until around 1615hrs, we'll be having a Knockout Tournament, just turn up and play five frames. Top scorers from that will play in the Final Tournament at 1645hrs. From 1800hrs onwards, there will be Xtreme Bowling - first come first served!
Squash - in the morning there will be an 'Introduction to Squash' and you are welcome to come down and get on the courts (but remember to wear non-marking shoes please!). Sign up to spend time with a good player to learn the basics – scoring, basic rules, playing strategy and so on. The squash section is looking to entice you to join the Monthly League which is open to all levels of players from the very beginning to the most skillful. After lunch, cheer on the RHKYC team as they battle the American Club and the HK Football Club in the annual Scribes Trophy.
Snooker – Did you know the club has a snooker table? Fancy yourself as a bit of a shark? Come on down to the snooker room and take up the challenge! Play some quick 5 minute games and see how many points you can put up. Throughout the day we will be keeping a leaders board and the top four will battle it out in the semi-finals and then the finals! Sign up to the newly revamped snooker league and play 4 games a month for chance to take the title of snooker king (or queen) of the club and strip the bragging rights from Jimmy and Gareth. If you are interested in signing up for the snooker league starting mid-May, email our Snooker Convenor James Stewart at snooker@rhkyc.org.hk
Golf – show us your stuff! Did you know that we have our own Kellett Golf Society? Come along and hear all about it.
F&B - A special harbourfront cafe will be setup on the hard standing. Alongside will be our 'tentless' beer tent and if that isn't enough we'll have several food stalls dotted around too! It'll be a culinary journey!
Boat Jumble - you must sign up for this ahead of the day as we only have a handful of spaces available. Do you have any second hand sailing gear hanging about that you want to get rid of? Now is your chance! For only $300 (a direct donation to charity) we'll save a parking space for you near the Ship Shop. Load your boot with your stuff and sell it! If you want more information on this please email Roger.Eastham@rhkyc.org.hk
Entertainment - the Hong Kong Sea School marching band will be playing two sets - the first at 1300hrs and the second at 1400hrs. After that, Larry Hammond and the Soul Preacher will be playing from 1700hrs to 1900hrs. In between, we've got hold of Russ Parker's cache of tunes on his IPOD so there will be music ALL day! And, for the little ones, there will be a bouncy castle in the Waterside all day!
