China Coast Race Week 2010
comprising
China Coast Regatta - 15 to 17 October
and
The VinaCapital Hong Kong to Vietnam Race - 20 to 24 October

Event website www.chinacoastraceweek.com

China Coast Regatta was introduced to RHKYC's sailing calendar in 1993 as a result of efforts by Steve Ellis to organise a replacement event for the China Coast Cup.  Ellis’ ambition was to establish the Regatta as an International event with regional appeal and originally intended it for racing yachts which would make the most of the best sailing weather Hong Kong has to offer, however decided to open the event to cruising yachts. Ellis ultimately wanted the event to become part of the Asian Circuit along with Raja Muda Regatta and King’s Cup, which it has, along with Singapore Straits Regatta.

In its time, China Coast Regatta has included class keelboats as well as Cruisers, however the current format is currently Cruisers only, with around  40 to 50 boats, including entries from Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines, entering annually.  The Regatta is held in the best of Hong Kong’s sailing conditions with winds consistently in the 15 –20 knots range, under blue skies and on warm friendly waters.

Participants are tested in open waters over a series of Windward / Leeward, Islands and Geometric courses, with the various IRC fleets racing different courses. The social element is as important as the sailing, and numerous opportunities are used as an excuse for parties – Welcome Drinks and Prizegiving to name just two!

Full details will be posted on the event website, www.chinacoastraceweek.com as they become available.

Category 1 Offshore Race
This year Race Week culminates in the biennial VinaCapital Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, which starts on 20 October. A Category 1, 656nm downhill slide, this race is a favourite of Asia's offshore sailors and the 2004 record of 42h 45m 41s set by Grant Wharington's Skandia is there to be broken!

Full details will be posted on the event website, www.hkvietnamrace.com as they become available.
