General
The aim of the Junior course is to teach sculling in a fun and safe environment to younger school age rowers (12-18 years of age). At the completion of this course each Junior should be competent to row under supervision in single or double sculling boats.

Juniors will undertake training in the basics of sculling with an emphasis on good boat handling and technique. A capsize drill (falling out of boat and climbing back in) will be done before rowers are judged to be competent. At the end of the course each Junior should be able to undertake a supervised row in a single or double scull.

Juniors are invided to continue rowing with our squad of other younger aged rowers. This makes for more fun and competition for each rower and the Club encourages the Juniors to train for and enter age appropriate events at HKCRA regattas.

Note:
Sculling uses two oars per rower, one in each hand.
Sweep uses one oar per rower, both hands on the one oar.
The Club does not teach sweep oared rowing to Juniors under the age of 16. Sweep oar rowing is not symmetrical (the body leans to one side) and many experts believe that this provides an increased risk of injury in developing bodies.
